“B-healthy Ltd” is a medical insurance company that reimbursesthe cost of drugs and various other medical expenses to itscustomers. According to current procedures, customers are asked topresent receipts of drug purchases together with the relevantphysician prescriptions and other medical documents. Reimbursementis calculated according to the insurance agreementstipulations:

• Two lists of drugs are in effect for the purpose ofreimbursement: class A and class B.

Class A: 90% of the costs of each purchased drug are reimbursedby B-healthy. Minimum customer participation of $5.

For example: A $10 drug is reimbursed by $5 (customer’sparticipation $5).

An $80 drug is reimbursed by $72 (customer’s participation$8–10%, reimbursement 90%)

Class B: 50% of the costs of each purchased drug are reimbursedby B-healthy (no excess).

• A check is prepared and sent to the customer. The insuranceagreement states the period of 45 days for the company to completethe reimbursement.

• For some Class A drugs the customer should prefer to buy themedications as a private customer as there is no reimbursementexpected (drug’s price is below $5).

The procedure described proved to be very expensive forB-healthy at the same time as provoking much subscriberdissatisfaction. The growth in of the number of subscribers as wellas the problems of complying with the current procedure motivated anew agreement with the licensed pharmacies. The agreementauthorized the licensed pharmacy to deduct the reimbursement sumsfrom the drug invoices; B-healthy will then reimburse thepharmacies monthly for the deducted sums.
