This assignment will be a start to the written assignment due at the end of Week Six. For this assignment, you will need to start your research. You are allowed to choose your own topic, as long as it fits the the subject and time period of this course – American history before 1877. This means no papers on Hitler or the Holocaust, or Richard Nixon or the Great Depression, or anything else that is outside either the course time frame or subject area. If you are unsure if your topic is acceptable, please contact your instructor. Then work through the following form. Formulate a thesis statement – an argument. List three aspect of your topic that you will use to support your thesis. Then find three scholarly sources for your research. Scholarly means peer-reviewed or published by an academic or scholarly publisher. The APUS Trefry Library is a good place to look for such sources, as is the Google Scholar search engine. These are required to be primary and secondary sources. These need to be formatted according to the style guidelines you choose – APA, MLA, or Chicago Manual of Style.
