II. Overview A. The divorce rate has been 1.2 million cases every year since 1970, which is unhealthy for society (Coates, 2017). B. In most divorce cases, some key issues that the courts settle include children’s custody and property ownership. C. If the divorce ruling is against one parent, that parent may suffer socially and psychologically. D. Children whose parents are divorced may experience disruption in their social and academic life.
