Go to Stephen Few’s blog “the Perceptual Edge”(http://www.perceptualedge.com/).  Go to the section of“Examples.”  In this section, he provides critiques ofvarious dashboard examples.  Read at least 3-4 of theseexamples.  Now go tohttp://www.dundas.com/.  Select the “Dashboards andReporting” section of the site.  Once there, click the“Interactive Samples” selection.  You will be shown avariety of different dashboard demos.  Run a couple ofthe demos.

What sorts of information and metrics are shown on the demos?What sorts of actions can you take?

Using some of the basic concepts from Few’s critiques, describesome of the good design points and bad design points of thedemos.

  

Part B.

Watch the YouTube video about how to create a dashboard in Excel(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIPcer_C4gM). (This is a series ofvideos but you should be able to create a simple dashboard by justwatching this first introductory video.) Create a dashboard with atleast 3 different charts. You can make up the data but someexamples might be: income data, expenses data, calories consumed,calories burned, time spent exercising. In addition to thedashboard, include a brief narrative of the benefits ofdashboards.
